Globe Visibility Mobile Internet

Ten days ago, I took a “deeper” plunge into the mobile Internet realm by subscribing to Globe Telecom’s Globe Visibility Mobile Internet. I wanted to write a review of the service, but I thought it would be premature to assess the performance of Globe Visibility at this stage since I have only used it for close to two weeks. Let me subject the mobile Internet service first to places I frequently stay and work at before I come back in maybe a month or two with a more detailed review. For now, my initial impression of the utility is somewhat satisfactory. I almost always get HSDPA and 3G frequencies most of the time, but the connection speeds have not been consistently good. The connection would intermittently drop to EDGE and GPRS. But things still remained tolerable in my case, perhaps partly due to my experience accessing the Internet via my trusty old Nokia N70, where I got used to the occasional drop from 3G to GPRS every once in a while, and partially also to the fact that I don’t really do that heavy web work using mobile Internet. Still, Globe Telecom needs to improve the consistency of their 3G/HSDPA infrastructure.

It was just unfortunate that Globe had to limit the P1,499/month plan to just 100 mobile Internet hours. (I am certain to go over that limit regularly especially now that the DSL connection at the home base have been inexistent the past several weeks.) Although as a customer of the said plan, I get to enjoy unlimited wireless access via GlobeQUEST’s hundreds of WiZ (Wireless Internet Zone) hot spots (they badly need to update their website) in the metropolis, it would have been excellent if they applied unlimited access via 3G/HSDPA or even increase the allocation of mobile Internet hours per plan. And I think the 24-month lock-in period is just too long for the kind of money their subscribers are paying.

Anyway, I just hope things work out well between me and my Globe Visibility Postpaid subscription. Watch this space for more feedback in the coming weeks. If you’re a Visibility user, prepaid or postpaid, feel free to share your thoughts.
