Blown out of proportion Botox and Thermage issue

Charice can do what she wants, but…

I just had to put in my two cents’ worth! But I’ll be quick on this one. Apparently, very few brain cells were actually used in the handling of the now very controversial cosmetic procedures that singer Charice Pempengco underwent recently. And that lack of cerebral power applies to all sides involved in the fiasco, particularly the pop star’s camp, and the Belo Medical Group. How could all of them, their collective brain trust, possibly miss the certain backlash that would ensue from publicly showing on a national TV newscast the application of superficial “anti-aging” procedures on a young woman in the prime of her youth? How come they didn’t see that coming? Of course, a lot of people’s sensibilities were disturbed and they’ll naturally be upset!

Well, not me though. Seriously. I’m okay with what she did even if it “sends a wrong message.” Let me point out that Charice is 18 years old. She can do whatever she wants with her body. In my view, it doesn’t matter if she, on her own volition, really wanted to undergo whatever it is she really underwent or if she was (possibly) required by the production people behind “Glee” to go through it.

What I’m aghast at was Charice’s decision to take the horrible advice of turning what should have been private sessions with Dr. Vicki Belo into a media circus! Whatever happened to being discreet? I think it’s safe to say that making the Thermage and Botox treatment an issue for public consumption is something I’m sure the young performer will regret for some time, even if she won’t admit it. Can you blame the local and international entertainment press to take on a condescending tone when they report this not-so-luminous spot in Charice’s young career? After all, “Glee,” the immensely popular show she’s joining, is all about accepting ourselves for who we are. Yes, how ironic. But it’s just a show, anyway. (If Charice is joining “Nip/Tuck,” what she went through would have been apt.)

How soon will this brouhaha fritter away, nobody knows. The sooner, the better for everyone. Charice is a hardworking young woman who deserves all the recognition she’s getting everywhere for her singing talents. But I can only hope that this public relations misstep will not be the turning point that will cause her bright star to quickly burn out way too soon.

To Charice, good luck to you. Do well on “Glee!”
